The Philadelphia Obituary Project is excited to partner with Storiez Trauma Narratives for three free virtual summer storytelling workshops for people impacted by gun violence. This special program, Writing Heals, is funded by the city’s Targeted Community Investment Grant. The program will be led by Dr. Meagan Corrado, a licensed clinical social worker.
This program will help people who have been impacted by gun violence as they create, voice and honor their narratives through writing. Storytelling is an important part of understanding and processing trauma.
Each workshop will take place on Zoom over the span of three days for three hours per day, for a total of nine hours of programming.
Participants will connect with each other, learn how trauma impacts us, identify ways to heal from trauma, and create their own personal narratives. Participants can choose one of the following three sections:
- Aug. 3, 4 and 5 from 5-8 p.m.
- Aug. 10, 11 and 12 from 3-6 p.m.
- Aug. 24, 25 and 26 from 5-8 p.m.
If you are a parent, grandparent, sibling, spouse, child or friend of a gun violence victim, or if you have been a victim yourself, we encourage you to sign up.
Requirements:
- You must have a computer with internet to attend the Zoom sessions
- You must be able to pick up materials at the South Philadelphia Library at Broad and Morris prior to the workshop
Each participant will receive a $25 self-care gift card to Target. Register by clicking here. Questions? Email [email protected].
