While at a party, Amber Lewis noticed her friend being talked to by a boy she clearly wasn’t interested in. With no hesitation Amber came up with a clever plan to get her out of the jam, said her friend, Janaya Hill.
”Girl, I ain’t locked the door and my mom screaming, we gotta go!” Amber told Janaya. In reality, her mom was never on the phone. “She saved me from that headache,” Janaya said.

Amber would do anything for her friends, and her energy was magnetic. She grew up in the Allegheny area, where she found her sense of humor from her surroundings. She was funny, caring and deeply loving, with a knack for making people feel at ease.
Those close to her describe her as the life of the party, not because she was loud or attention-seeking, but because she had a rare gift for pulling people together and making joy contagious.
Amber’s smile was her signature. Wide, bright, and genuine, it had a way of softening even the hardest day. Friends say it was the way her whole face lit up, like she was genuinely happy to see you.
“Her smile just wrapped around you like a hug,” her sister Kierra Lewis said. “Even if you hadn’t talked in a while, when you saw Amber, you felt like no time had passed.”
That warmth was the foundation of her relationships. She could meet someone once and remember their name, their story and ask after them months later.

Amber loved to laugh, and she loved to make other people laugh even more. One day while hanging with her friends, she came up with an idea to plot the best day for her best friend, Kierra. “Girl, hurry up and get dressed. We outside,” she said, screaming through the phone. The whole day was full of joy and laughter.
From goofy late‑night hangouts to spontaneous tik tok dance-offs, she knew how to create moments that would be retold for years. If there was music playing, Amber was moving, often dragging her friends into her dance routines.
“She didn’t care who was watching,” Kierra recalled with a smile. “If Amber felt the beat, she was dancing. And nine times out of ten, she’d have you dancing with her, even if you swore you couldn’t.”
She could sit with you through heartbreak, make you laugh through tears, and somehow leave you feeling lighter than before. Friends say they could tell her anything without fear of judgment. She had a way of making people feel safe, a rare and beautiful gift.
Amber was a student at Mastbaum High School where she found her group of friends. Unfortunately, Amber’s life was cut short on October 6 2024 after a horrible shooting that took place at a party.

Motherhood changed Amber’s life in the most beautiful way. She embraced it fully, pouring her love, energy and humor into raising her child. She refused to let challenges dim her light or define her joy. Instead, she became even more determined to live fully, knowing her child was watching, learning and drawing wisdom from her example.
“She was the kind of mom who made everything an adventure,” her mother Tanya Lewis said. “A trip to the park, baking cookies, even just sitting in the house, she found a way to make it fun.”
Amber wanted her child to grow up knowing love, laughter and resilience. She modeled all three every day.
Her presence often became the glue that kept groups together, her friends were drawn to her magnetic blend of warmth, humor and authenticity.
“She made you feel like you belonged,” Kierra said. “You didn’t have to be anything but yourself around her, she made that feel like enough.”
